Shot put is one of the track and field disciplines practiced at the Tenerife Athletics Center (CIAT). It is one of the four throwing events in athletics, along with javelin, hammer, and discus, but in this case, it consists of throwing a shot or weight as far as possible from a specific point.
The shot put is a solid ball whose size and weight depend on whether it is a male or female category and also on the age of the thrower. For men, it will have a diameter of between 110 and 130 millimeters and a weight of 7.26 kg; While for women the diameter will be between 95 and 110 millimeters and the weight 4 kg (absolute category).
Practicing sports always has multiple benefits for our body and also for our mind. Therefore, we find many similarities in the benefits of practicing any other discipline, such as keeping our body active, working our muscles, and thus protecting ourselves from possible injuries. In addition, exercising also helps us manage stress, calm anxiety, and feel better about ourselves.
Practicing any athletic discipline, such as shot put, also involves learning specific techniques of a particular sport and following a discipline that, while it sometimes entails sacrifice, is also enriching.
The shot put, as we’ve mentioned, requires a very specific technique. Control of our body and movements is vital for the throw to be valid and, of course, to reach the target. Therefore, we’re talking about a sport that combines strength with coordination, requiring us to work on both so they are in harmony.
Finally, it’s worth mentioning that this sport inherently fosters a desire for self-improvement, and progress is palpable every day. Each athlete has their own personal bests, and the daily goal is always to surpass them.
