Friday, 28 October 2022

The javelin throw is one of the disciplines of athletics. It’s an event that integrates several factors such as speed, accuracy, strength, and proper technique. As many might imagine, the javelin throw has its roots in primitive societies. Back then, humans used sticks tipped with sharpened stones for hunting. According to current information, competitions were held in some places involving throwing these same sticks. Such was its importance that the Greeks included this event in the Olympic Games, as part of the pentathlon.

Today, this activity continues to be practiced, and it has been included in the Olympic events since 1908. At the Tenerife Athletics Center (CIAT), we have the best facilities for practicing this sport, and you can also count on excellent coaches from the various clubs on the island.

What exactly does javelin throwing involve?

The goal of javelin throwing is to project the javelin as far as possible. There are different techniques for achieving this. In competition, this throw must be completed within a time limit of 1 minute. Each athlete has 3 attempts. Another important rule is that for the throw to be valid, the tip of the javelin must be the first thing to touch the ground. Furthermore, only the classic javelin throw is permitted; variations in technique, such as turning your back to the throwing point, are not allowed.

If you want to learn all the secrets of javelin throwing, the CIAT in Tenerife offers the best opportunity with top-quality facilities and highly qualified professionals. Want more information? Visit our website.
