Tenerife Bluetrail opens registration for people with disabilities who want to participate in the Challenge

The Tenerife Bluetrail 2022, the mountain race organized by the Tenerife Island Council (Cabildo) through Ideco, which will take place from June 2nd to 5th, has opened registration for the sixth edition of the Bluetrail Challenge, a non-competitive event for people with disabilities. This was announced today by the Island Councillor for Sports, Concepción Rivero, who stated that “the organizers will reserve 100 places, subsidized by the Island Council, for these athletes.” Those interested can now register on the race website.

Rivero explains that inclusion is once again one of the core values ​​of the Tenerife Bluetrail, “because we not only want to have a spectacular race, with a unique route through a World Heritage Site like Teide National Park, but we also intend for it to be a race open to everyone, regardless of disability.”

The island councilor emphasizes that the Challenge has become “one of the most highly valued categories by both participants and the general public because it is very exciting to witness the dedication of these athletes during the race, which is a clear example of overcoming adversity and willpower.”

The Bluetrail Challenge will take place on June 4th, starting at 6:00 PM, with three different distances. The first race, a 7.2-kilometer course, will begin at the Santa Ana viewpoint (Santa Úrsula), while the second, a 5-kilometer course, will start near the Church of Our Lady of Peace in Puerto de la Cruz. The third race, a 1.2-kilometer course, will have its starting arch in the Martiánez area and will follow an urban circuit to the finish line at Lake Martiánez, where the other races also finish. The top three finishers in each race will receive a trophy.

Participation in the Tenerife Bluetrail Challenge is open to all athletes over 18 years of age with a certified disability who are registered with any sports federation or who present a medical certificate confirming their ability to participate in this type of race. The organizers will recognize the race times of all participants, which will not be mutually exclusive, as the goal is for everyone to complete the course to the finish line at Lago Martiánez in Puerto de la Cruz, each person overcoming their own limitations.
