The Island Councillor for Sports, Concepción Rivero, indicates that these grants amount to 158,000 euros and reward the achievements obtained in official national and international competitions during the past year by athletes from Tenerife
The Tenerife Island Council has approved the regulations and call for applications for grants aimed at recognizing the sporting achievements of individual athletes from Tenerife during 2020 in official national and international competitions, such as rankings obtained in the most recent Spanish, European, and World Championships, or participation in the Tokyo Olympic or Paralympic Games.
The Island Councillor for Sports, Concepción Rivero, explains that “the Island Council is increasing these grants by 80% compared to last year, allocating €158,000. In 2020, the amount was €88,000.” She adds that “just as our athletes strive every day to improve themselves, the Island Council also strives to help them achieve new challenges and records.”
The main changes compared to the previous grant program are, firstly, the recognition of our athletes who participated in the recent Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games and, secondly, the recognition of sporting achievements not only in the senior categories, as was the case in previous years, but also in the other youth and master categories. To this end, a significant financial effort has been made, increasing the budget allocation by nearly 80% compared to the amount allocated in 2020.
The Island Director, Ángel Pérez, points out that “these grants will allow us to support this vital part of Tenerife’s sporting community.” He also highlights “the outstanding performance of Tenerife’s athletes last year and the pride they represent for the entire island.” They are an example of perseverance, effort, and constant improvement.
This grant is included in the Strategic Grant Plan of the Tenerife Island Council, and applications can be submitted soon, once the call for proposals is published in the Official Gazette of the Province.
