The awards ceremony took place at the Tenerife Island Center for Athletics (

On Thursday, January 12, Tenerife CajaCanarias held an awards ceremony for its Winter Criterium—featuring jumps, throws, and combined events—which took place in mid-December, celebrating the performances of 18 Canarian athletes who excelled in each of the disciplines. Present at the ceremony were the island’s Councilor for Sports, Concepción Rivero; the island’s Director of Sports, Ángel Luis Pérez; and the club’s president, Héctor González.
In addition, representatives from the CajaCanarias Foundation, the “
” the Tenerife Island Athletics Federation, and the collaborating companies KadFisio,
Nutricanarias, and Deportes Empate attended the event and presented gift certificates.
In the jumping events, Simón Siverio (high jump, 2.05 meters) and Paola Valle (triple jump, 12.04) took the top spots on the podium. Second place went to Pape Bara (long jump, 7.11 meters) and Lucía Morera (long jump, 5.60 meters), while Javier Pérez Rasines (long jump, 7.01 meters) and Débora Viera (triple jump, 11.17 meters) took bronze. All of them received gift certificates from the KadFisio physical therapy center.
In the throwing events, Yasiel Sotero (discus, 55.83
meters) and Valentina Marzari (shot put, 11.39 meters) took first place; in second place were Guillermo García Echandi (shot put, 15.43 meters) and Naycaren Barrera (discus, 36.20 meters); and in third place, Omar Amgouz (hammer throw, 51.07 meters) and Acorayda González (hammer throw, 39.65 meters). Each of them received a gift certificate from Nutricanarias, a company specializing in sports nutrition.
Finally, in the combined events, the winners were Juan Manuel Hernández (heptathlon, 5,050 points) and Sonya Trevisán (pentathlon, 3,286 points), who took first place. Second place went to José Luis López (heptathlon, 4,900 points) and Hana Pilicer (pentathlon, 2,460 points). Third place went to Pablo Gámez (heptathlon, 4,847 points) and María Cano (pentathlon, 2,424 points). All of them received gift certificates from the club’s partner store, Deportes Empate.
The island’s Sports Minister, Concepción Rivero, stated that this event “aims to recognize our best athletes in this discipline—those who have worked hard during training and who have had luck on their side during the competition.” She also took the opportunity to “encourage all the athletes who participated in this Criterium—but who, for one reason or another, did not achieve the results they had hoped for—to keep competing.”
The island’s director of sports, Ángel Luis Pérez Peña, expressed his gratitude for “the work done by the Tenerife CajaCanarias Athletics Club, which is always willing to organize these types of competitions that meet the high demand from athletes and prepare them for national competitions.”
In this vein, the president of Tenerife CajaCanarias, Héctor González, also expressed his gratitude for the support received from the Cabildo. “Thanks to that support, we achieved the major goal we set for ourselves: to give athletes the opportunity to set good times and meet the qualifying standards for the upcoming national indoor championships. We hope this partnership will endure over time and that we can continue to host future editions,” he concluded.
