The Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB® will honor the careers of four Canarian trail running “legends”

The Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB®, organized by the Cabildo through the public company Ideco, will this year present the “Canarian Legends” award to four trail runners nominated by various track and field clubs. This tribute aims to recognize their perseverance, their example of overcoming adversity, their track record, their sportsmanship, and their personal stories, so that they may serve as an inspiration to new generations of athletes.

Eugenia Castro, Isidro Perdomo, Roberto Sacramento, and José Manuel Santiago will be inducted into the Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB® “Legends” Hall of Fame during a ceremony to be held on March 19 at 6:00 p.m., as part of the Ultra Trail Village, which will be held near Martiánez Beach.

Sports Minister Yolanda Moliné explains that “with this award, we want to highlight the athletic careers of runners who, for one reason or another, can serve as an inspiration, especially for new generations of athletes.”

This is the case of Eugenia Castro, nominated by the Club Correcaminos Tenerife Team and Terranova Runners, whose athletic career is closely tied to the 110k category of the Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB®, as evidenced by the seven podium finishes she has achieved in her category in various editions of the race. With a career that includes numerous mountain races both within and outside the Canary Islands, Eugenia Castro has become a source of inspiration for female athletes.

Given his ten appearances in the Tenerife race and the seven times he has stood on the podium, the Naranjito Team has nominated Isidro Perdomo, a runner with a long and distinguished career that has also included participation in various championships in Tenerife and the Canary Islands, as well as in several mountain races on the islands.

At the suggestion of the Top Trail Canarias Club, Roberto Sacramento will also be recognized as a Canarian “legend” at the next edition of the Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB. At 63, he remains active and serves as an example to younger generations; as stated in the proposal, “his sportsmanlike and friendly attitude embodies the values of the mountains.” He was one of the club’s founders a decade ago, and through the club he has passed on his experience to novice athletes, some of whom have already become great runners.

The fourth nominee for the award is José Manuel Santiago, nominated by Club Olympus21 Tenerife, in recognition of his outstanding athletic career and his commitment to sports and trail running in Tenerife and the Canary Islands. Regarding the Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB, the athlete has finished first in his category in all eight of his appearances in the race and has placed seventh in the overall standings on two occasions, which underscores not only his individual performance but also his personal growth in competition against the race’s top runners.

The Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB®, which will celebrate its fifteenth edition in 2026, will take place from March 19 to 21 with ten race categories. The last edition of the race featured 3,200 runners from 65 countries, more than 700 people on the safety and logistics team, and around 200 volunteers.

The race is organized in collaboration with the Sports Department of the Tenerife Island Council, through its DXTenerife brand, and Turismo de Tenerife, through the “Tenerife despierta emociones” brand, as well as with the support of the Government of the Canary Islands, through the Islas Canarias brand, Fred. Olsen, Hospiten, Libby’s, Clínica del Pie Orotava, Coca-Cola Europacific Partners, Isola, Fonteide, La Fast, QRV Emergencias, La Molineta, Tirma, Riemann P20, Quanarian, Mahou 00 Tostada, and Cultesa.
