The Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB® will debut a new 68-kilometer race starting in El Rosario

The fifteenth edition of the Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB®, to be held from April 8 to 10, 2027, will debut a new 68-kilometer race starting from Plaza del Adelantado in La Esperanza, in the municipality of El Rosario. The Regional Minister of Sports, Yolanda Moliné, and the mayor, Escolástico Gil, recently held a meeting to coordinate the organizational and logistical aspects of this new race, which will take place on April 9 starting at 8:00 a.m.

The Regional Minister of Sports, Yolanda Moliné, noted that “the addition of this new category is in line with the goal of continuing to grow the Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB® with attractive routes tailored to different types of runners, while always maintaining the essence of a unique event due to the diversity and spectacular nature of the landscapes it traverses.”

Moliné highlighted “the cooperation and willingness of both the El Rosario City Council to host this new race and the other eight municipalities through which the 68k route passes, specifically Tacoronte, El Sauzal, La Matanza, La Victoria, Santa Úrsula, La Orotava, Los Realejos, and Puerto de la Cruz.”

For his part, the mayor of El Rosario, Escolástico Gil, highlighted how important it is for the municipality to host a race as prestigious as the Tenerife Bluetrail. “It’s a unique opportunity for runners from all over the world to experience some of our landscapes,” said the mayor, who emphasized El Rosario’s highly competitive reputation in the world of trail running and community races. “El Rosario is the birthplace of great figures in this sport, and furthermore, the City Council has been developing, over the years, three major sporting events that have gradually become staples on runners’ calendars: the La Esperanza fun run, the Machado Trail, and the year-end Night Run,” Gil said.

The 68k race, with 3,600 meters of elevation gain and offering the top three finishers a direct entry to the 2027 Hoka UTMB® Mont-Blanc in Chamonix, will start in La Esperanza, join the GR 131 long-distance trail, and wind through such unique locations as Las Raíces, Las Lagunetas, and the Gaitero area. The route continues through the area around Lomo de La Resbala and the La Orotava pine forest before descending toward the finish line in Puerto de la Cruz.

In addition to the new 68k race, the 2027 edition features changes to two other races. This includes the 73k, which adds about ten kilometers to become the 82k, and the Vertical Night Challenge, which also debuts a new 6.5-kilometer course from Socorro Beach to the Mirador de la Corona.

The Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB®, organized by the Cabildo through the public company Ideco, plans to open registration next June, with a 48-hour priority registration period for athletes who were unable to compete this year due to the race’s cancellation and wish to participate in the 2027 edition. Afterward, runners with a valid UTMB® Index will be able to register, followed by all other athletes.
