The Tenerife race, which will take place March 27–29, is still accepting registrations for the children’s category, the family category, and the adapted races
The Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB®, the mountain race organized by the Cabildo through the public company Ideco, will feature a total of 3,200 athletes from 65 countries after all available spots for the main categories were filled two months before the event. The race, which will take place March 27–29, has openings only in the Family Race, Peque Race, Reto, and Joëlettes categories.
The island’s Sports Minister, Yolanda Moliné, points out that “75% of the athletes participating in the race are from outside the island, which gives an idea of the importance of the Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB not only as a high-level sporting event with international impact but also as a driver of economic activity for the island.”
Yolanda Moliné points out that, “in addition to having 52% foreign runners across the different categories for the next edition, this year will see 22% women and 1,024 runners from the Canary Islands participating.”
In the breakdown of registered countries, the Spanish, French, and Italians stand out in terms of numbers, followed by the British, Germans, and Poles, although athletes from countries farther away from Tenerife—such as Kazakhstan, New Zealand, China, Japan, Belarus, and the United States—have also reserved their race numbers.
Another point to keep in mind is the percentage of runners who have decided to join the Cabildo’s “Tenerife Reborn” initiative to reforest the island’s mountains, which were devastated by the major fire that occurred in the summer of 2023. Of the 3,200 athletes participating in the race, 24.5% have donated funds or the cost of their race T-shirt to this cause.
The Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB® 2025 will kick off on March 27 with the distribution of race bibs, which, for the first time, will take place at Lago Martiánez in Puerto de la Cruz. The event’s accompanying trade show will also be held there over three days, featuring companies and brands specializing in products and equipment related to running, nutrition, and health, among other areas.
The race, now in its 14th year, will feature several new developments in 2025, including a change in the schedule for the 24k race—which will debut a semi-nighttime format—and a modification to the 73k course within Teide National Park, among other changes.
The event features ten race formats and four race categories through which participants can earn the Running Stones required to qualify for the sport’s most prestigious mountain race: the Hokka UTMB® Mont-Blanc, held in late August in Chamonix (France). Specifically, these are the Tenerife Bluetrail 110k / 6,250m+ (100M category – 4 Running Stones); the Tenerife Bluetrail 73k / 3,150m+ (100K category – 3 Running Stones); the Tenerife Bluetrail 47k / 2,600m+ (50K category – 2 Running Stones); and the Tenerife Bluetrail 24k / 1,300m+ (20K category – 1 Running Stone).
In addition to these races, there are other events such as the Tenerife Bluetrail 47k Relay, a 47-kilometer relay race, and the 3.5-kilometer Vertical Night Challenge. Also included are children’s and family races, as well as adapted races, which will take place on March 29 at 10:00 a.m.
The Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB® is organized in collaboration with the Sports Department of the Tenerife Island Council, through its DXTenerife brand, and Turismo de Tenerife, through the “Tenerife despierta emociones” brand, as well as with the support of Fred. Olsen, Hospiten, Libby’s, Clínica del Pie Orotava, Coca-Cola Europacific Partners, Isola, Fonteide, La Fast, QRV Emergencias, La Molineta, Tirma, and Orkla.
