The Island Council wants to involve the clubs in organizing the Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB®

The Island Council wants to involve trail running and track and field clubs in the organization of the Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB® so they can contribute their expertise in various logistical and technical areas. The island’s Councilor for Sports, Yolanda Moliné, met yesterday, Thursday, January 18, with about thirty representatives from these clubs to inform them of the main updates for the upcoming edition of the event—Spain’s highest mountain race, organized by the Cabildo through the public company Ideco.

During the event, which was also attended by Ideco’s CEO, Manuel Gómez, and the race director, Fernando Ordóñez, Yolanda Moliné highlighted the significant leap in quality the race has taken by joining the UTMB® World Series, one of the world’s most important trail running circuits. “We’ve committed to internationalization to make the race even bigger because we’re confident it will generate more economic activity for the island—but without forgetting that this is an event that always places a high priority on runners from the Canary Islands.”

The councilor explained that the race already has more than 1,700 registered participants from 45 countries, “which gives an idea of the interest it generates among runners from all over the world.” Another significant point the councilor highlighted is the increase in female participation, “which currently accounts for more than 21.2% of all registrants.”

The participating clubs also learned about the race’s new routes, which had to be adjusted following the severe wildfire that devastated the island’s forests last August. In this regard, the runners’ sensitivity toward the recovery of the burned forests is proving particularly significant, as approximately 22% of the participants have decided to donate funds to this cause, which will be managed through the Cabildo’s “Tenerife Renace” initiative.

The meeting with the clubs was the first of many that the Cabildo plans to hold with the groups involved in organizing the race—such as volunteers, security personnel, and the municipalities through which the race passes—in order to exchange views and gather feedback and suggestions.

The event, which will take place from June 6 to 8, features four race categories that allow participants to earn Running Stones and qualify for the sport’s most prestigious mountain race: the Dacia UTMB® Mont-Blanc, held in late August in Chamonix (France). Specifically, these are the Tenerife Bluetrail 110K / 6,250m+ (100M category – 4 Running Stones); the Tenerife Bluetrail 73K / 3,150m+ (100K category – 3 Running Stones); the Tenerife Bluetrail 47K / 2,600m+ (50K category – 2 Running Stones); and the Tenerife Bluetrail 24K / 1,300m+ (20K category – 1 Running Stone).

In addition to these races, there are other events such as the Tenerife Bluetrail 47K Relay, a 47-kilometer relay race, and the 3.5-kilometer Vertical Night Challenge. Registration for the children’s, family, and adapted races will open soon.
