This service, which will be available to athletes who wish to use it, will be offered as part of the Expodeporte 2024 trade show
The Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB®, the mountain race organized by the Cabildo through the public company Ideco, will offer psychological support services for runners, thereby reinforcing its commitment to the mental and emotional well-being of athletes.
The island’s Sports Minister, Yolanda Moliné, notes that “the Tenerife race has been a pioneer in implementing a volunteer psychological support service in collaboration with the Santa Cruz de Tenerife College of Psychology, which debuted with great success last year and has already become an essential resource for those facing the challenge of traversing the trails of the island of Tenerife in a competition as demanding as this one.”
The Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB® challenge requires not only a high level of physical fitness but also exceptional mental strength. Participants must face challenges such as tolerance for fatigue and pain, strategic planning of their effort, and attention management, among other aspects. However, due to individual differences and personal circumstances, some runners may find themselves in a psychological state that is less suited to tackling the challenge.
The team of psychologists working with the race will provide personalized support to help runners understand their mental state, identify internal resources, and mentally prepare for the race.
The service, which will take place as part of the Expodeporte 2024 trade show during the bib pickup scheduled for June 6 and 7, will give runners the opportunity to undergo a brief psychological assessment and discuss their results with professionals. In addition, an online questionnaire will be used to gather additional information and provide each participant with a personalized report.
