The Island Council is hosting the seventh edition of the “School Sports Meetings”

More than 200 schoolchildren from the metropolitan area participated today, December 12, in the seventh edition of the “School Sports Meetings,” organized by the Tenerife Island Council and held at the Tenerife Athletics Center (CIAT) in Tíncer.

The island’s Councilor for Sports, Yolanda Moliné, emphasizes that these events aim to “foster motivation to engage in physical activity and sports and promote healthy lifestyle habits among children and youth outside of their own schools and in collaboration with other schools in their municipality or region.”

This program is aimed at students in the 5th and 6th grades of elementary school and the 1st grade of compulsory secondary education at schools in Tenerife, with an estimated 3,600 students participating through nine events organized throughout the 2023–2024 school year, spread across the island’s different geographic areas: north, south, and the metropolitan area.

“The goal is to create a meeting place for nearby schools by offering a variety of physical and sports activities with a strong recreational focus, so that students and teachers can spend a day together, building relationships, reinforcing the promotion of active and healthy lifestyles, and fostering quality education,” says Yolanda Moliné.

These events throughout the year have coincided with days of special significance for physical education, such as European School Sports Day and Physical Education in the Street Day, among others.

Participating schools have been given a set of sports equipment to help them improve and diversify the physical and sports activities offered at their schools, making them more engaging and motivating.
