The Island Council is getting the CIAT ready for the Canarias Athletics Invitational

The Island Council, through the public company Ideco, is currently working to prepare the Tenerife Athletics Center (CIAT) for tomorrow’s event —the Canarias Athletics Invitational, an international track and field competition taking place on Wednesday, the 15th—which will feature world-renowned athletes.

The work currently being carried out by staff from Ideco’s Technical Department involves inspecting the starting gate; cleaning the walls and installing a bird barrier; collecting trash; checking various electrical outlets and their functionality; and installing the necessary infrastructure to ensure the proper operation of the LED screen at the finish line and the signal for the mobile TV unit.

In addition, the functionality of the public restrooms, the facilities adjacent to the bleachers, and the indoor area was reviewed; the elevator was tested; and other safety measures related to fire detection were checked, among other tasks.

The Canarias Athletics Invitational will feature elite athletes such as Spanish record-holder Ana Peleteiro and Portugal’s Patricia Mamona, who won bronze and silver, respectively, at the recent Tokyo Olympic Games. Also competing at the CIAT will be Bruno Hortelano, Spain’s greatest sprinter of all time; 400-meter runner Samuel García of Tenerife CajaCanarias , considered the best Canarian sprinter in history; and discus thrower Yasiel Sotero, among other athletes.

The meet will feature a program of 12 events, 6 in the men’s division and 6 in the women’s division. In the men’s division, the 200-, 400-, and 800-meter races will be held, in addition to the 400-meter hurdles. There will also be events for the discus throw and the long jump. For the women’s category, the 200-, 400-, and 1,500-meter races are scheduled, along with the 400-meter hurdles. In addition, the field events will include both the triple jump and the shot put.
