The Island Council decides to postpone the 10th edition of the Tenerife Bluetrail until 2021

The organization promises that next year’s race will be the best yet to celebrate its 10th anniversary

The next edition of the Tenerife Bluetrail, Spain’s highest mountain race, will be held in 2021. This decision was made today by the Tenerife Island Council, which organizes the event through the public company Ideco, following the extension of the state of emergency declared by the Spanish government to contain the spread of COVID-19.

The island’s Sports Minister, Concepción Rivero, stated that “we have considered various options and believe the best alternative is to postpone the event until next year, when we will celebrate the 10th anniversary of our race with all the honors it deserves.” Rivero reminds everyone that what matters most during this time of crisis is people’s health, following all recommendations from health authorities, and staying home to prevent the spread of infection.

“Athletes have also been greatly affected by the pandemic and restrictions on movement. We want the runners in the Tenerife Bluetrail to arrive at the race in top physical condition, and given the circumstances, this would not have been possible on the originally scheduled date,” emphasizes the island councilor, who adds that “we are already working to make the 2021 race the best one yet.”

The Tenerife Bluetrail was scheduled to take place from June 4 to 6 and feature seven race categories: the Ultra, covering 103 kilometers; the Trail, covering 71 kilometers, which also includes a relay category; the Marathon, at 44 kilometers; the Half, covering a distance of 20 kilometers; the Bluetrail Challenge for people with disabilities, which includes three distances of 8, 3.7, and 1.2 kilometers; and a new 3.1-kilometer nighttime vertical race.
