regulatory bodies and the call for grant applications to support the youth programs of the island’s sports clubs this year, with a budget of 1,300,000 euros.

Concepción Rivero, the Sports Minister, explains that “the grant provides that licenses for adapted sports and for people with disabilities be considered in their entirety as recreational licenses, with no age limit; we want to gradually eliminate barriers and promote inclusion through sports.”

He adds that “the Tenerife Island Council’s commitment to promoting sports among young people and supporting youth development is a constant priority,” which is why “every year, efforts are made to increase the budget for these grants.”

For his part, the island’s director of sports, Ángel Pérez, states that “this funding will enable many organizations to cover part of the expenses they incur to maintain their programs, such as sports licenses and insurance for minors under 18 across various sports, the purchase of materials and equipment, and the costs of hiring certified referees for competitions.”

Clubs on the island that have at least 10 athlete licenses for athletes aged 18 or younger are eligible for this grant. Clubs or groups composed of people with disabilities are not required to meet the minimum number of licenses or the age limit to apply for this grant to promote grassroots sports on the island.

Indigenous and traditional sports clubs are excluded, as they have their own line of grants. Those that are eligible to apply for this grant are sports clubs in Tenerife that compete in soccer and basketball.
