Sports clubs, sports federations, and individual athletes who have competed in national and international events will benefit

The Tenerife Island Council has approved a budget of 480,000 euros to help cover travel expenses for sports clubs, sports federations, and individual athletes from Tenerife participating in official national and international competitions. The travel expenses to be covered will be for trips taken between January 1 and June 30 of this year.

The Sports Minister, Yolanda Moliné, notes that “we are aware of the costs involved in traveling to other places, both within Spain and abroad, and it is only fair that the Cabildo help cover them.” She adds that “these are athletes who carry the name of Tenerife wherever they go and demonstrate the high level of competition on the island across a wide range of sports.”

He also notes that this call for applications includes two new features: “The first is the simplification of the documentation required to ensure the process moves as quickly as possible; the second is setting a maximum of 18 eligible participants per team, regardless of the sport.”

The councilor adds that the purpose of this grant program is to cover the costs of lodging, meals, and domestic transportation for participation in official national or international competitions. These grants are intended for individual athletes, sports clubs in Tenerife, and sports federations in Tenerife and the Canary Islands (for athletes from Tenerife) that are legally incorporated and registered in the Canary Islands Registry of Sports Organizations.

The guidelines specify that this grant does not apply to unofficial matches or tournaments, nor to those listed only with regional federations. Furthermore, sports organizations that are not registered in the Canary Islands Registry of Sports Organizations are excluded.

Applications may be submitted online through the Cabildo’s electronic portal (https://sede.tenerife.es) and must be filed within 15 business days of publication in the Official Gazette of the Province (BOP).
