The Island Council allocates 72,000 euros for travel to official sports competitions

Wednesday, 13 January 2021

The island’s Sports Minister, Concepción Rivero, highlights the importance of this financial assistance for federations and clubs, which will enable them to cover the costs of their participation in official sports competitions that took place between July 1, 2019, and March 31, 2020

The Tenerife Island Council, through the Sports Department headed by Concepción Rivero, has approved, at a Governing Council meeting, the allocation of 72,210 euros in grants to cover travel expenses to official national and international sports competitions held during the past season, which took place between July 1, 2019, and March 31, 2020.

The grants have been awarded to more than a hundred individual athletes, as well as to sports federations and clubs, and will serve “to reimburse the expenses we know they had to cover many months ago but which, we hope, will help them continue holding their respective competitions once normalcy is restored,” Rivero noted.

The national and international competitions in which athletes from the island have participated—and for which these grants were awarded—span various sports, including chess, swimming, track and field, judo, beach volleyball, and cycling, among others.
