The elite of trail running gather at the Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB®

The Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB®, organized by the Cabildo through the public company Ideco, will bring together 90 of the world’s best trail runners from March 27 to 29. Never before in the history of the race—which is celebrating its 14th edition this year—has such a large group of athletes gathered, featuring top names in the sport in both the men’s and women’s categories.

The island’s Sports Minister, Yolanda Moliné, notes that “Spain’s highest race will feature some major stars. It will be an extremely competitive race because some of the world’s top athletes will be participating, which gives an idea of the high level of competition we’ll see this year—not only because of the participation of world-class athletes but also because of the presence of Canarian runners who have a lot to offer in a race like this.”

With an overall UTMB® Index of 914 and as the recent winner of the Arc of Attrition by UTMB® 2025 – Arc 50, Tom Evans will be one of the runners competing for the title in the Tenerife Bluetrail 110k, 100M category. Joining him will be, among others, Dmitry Mityaev (UTMB® Index 909), Pablo Villa (UTMB® Index of 871), and veteran athlete Tofol Castanyer, winner of the CCC in 2012 and runner-up in the 2014 edition of the UTMB® Mont-Blanc.

Athlete Ekaterina Mityaeva (759 UTMB® Index), winner of the 2024 Chiang Mai Thailand by UTMB®, Germany’s Marie-Luise Muhlhuber (719 UTMB® Index) and France’s Claire Bannwarth (704 UTMB® Index) will be the top contenders for victory in this same distance.

The women’s division of the 73-kilometer race—the 100K category—will be highly competitive, although South African Toni McCann (799 UTMB® Index), winner of the OCC in 2023, and the 2024 CCC, is the favorite. She won’t have an easy time of it, though, as she’ll face stiff competition from Zimbabwean runner Emily Hanwgood (768 UTMB® Index) and Italian Camilla Magliano (767 UTMB® Index). Rosa Lara Feliu (761 UTMB® Index), winner of the ETM de Mallorca by UTMB®, will be the leading Spanish contender fighting for a spot on the podium. In the men’s category, the names to watch are Spain’s Miguel Heras (901 UTMB® Index); France’s Thibaut Garrivier (898 UTMB® Index); and Spain’s Jordi Gamito (841 UTMB® Index).

However, one of the races that will undoubtedly generate the most interest is the Tenerife Bluetrail 47k, which will bring together a huge number of top-level athletes. Roberto Delorenzi (928 UTMB® Index), Lorenzo Beltrami (898 UTMB® Index), Andreu Simón (894 UTMB® Index)—who placed third in this distance at last year’s event— Yoel de Paz from the Canary Islands (889 UTMB® Index), Artiz Egea (884 UTMB® Index), Joaquin López (880 UTMB® Index), who placed third at the 2024 HOKA UTMB® Mont-Blanc, and Fran Anguita (852 UTMB® Index), the current winner of the Tenerife Bluetrail 24k, will be some of the names to watch for the top spot.

In the women’s category, all eyes will be on the Spanish runners Julia Font ( 763 UTMB® Index), winner of the 2024 Ultra Pirineu 42K and third-place finisher at the 2023 DACIA UTMB® Mont-Blanc ETC, Ikram Rharsalla (760 UTMB® Index), Sheila Avilés Castaño (757 UTMB® Index), Mireia Pons (731 UTMB® Index), and Marta Pérez Maroto (700 UTMB® Index).

Canarian runners Cristofer Clemente (857 UTMB® Index), winner of the 2024 Nice Côte d’Azur 100 Miles by UTMB® and the 2023 Puerto Vallarta, Mexico 100K by UTMB®, and Moana Lilly Kehres (702 UTMB® Index), who placed third in the HOKA Val d’Aran EXP by UTMB® last July, will be two of the top contenders to claim the top spot on the podium at the Tenerife Bluetrail 24K.
