The City Council will replace the lighting at CIAT with more efficient LED lighting

The Tenerife Island Council plans to replace the lighting at the Tenerife Athletics Center (CIAT) with a much more efficient LED system that will cover the main track, the stands, and the indoor area. The Board of Directors of Ideco, the Island Council’s public company that manages the center, approved the contract for this project at its last meeting. The project will involve an investment of 975,294 euros, financed in part by European Next Generation funds.

Sports Minister Yolanda Moliné, who visited the facility today, July 29, the facility, highlights “the significant investment of more than 2.3 million euros that we will make this year in the CIAT to fund various projects, such as the renovation of the main court’s flooring—currently underway—or the installation of a solar power system, in addition to the replacement of the lighting fixtures.” In the councilor’s view, “all these investments will help modernize this world-class sports facility, which is used by more than 1,300 athletesevery month.”

The strength training equipment in the gym and the indoor area will also be replaced—a project currently in the bidding process—as will the seats in the stands. The work planned for this year will be completed with the installation of an additional throwing cage to complement the existing one.

The planned project to improve energy efficiency, which will begin at the end of the year and have a two-month completion period, also includes the implementation of a new centralized control system based on DALI (Digital Addressable Lighting Interface) standards, digital communication protocols designed to control and regulate lighting in a way that enables two-way communication between control devices and light fixtures.
