The City Council will allocate 480,000 euros for travel to national and international sports competitions

The Tenerife Island Council, through its Sports Department, approved at its most recent Governing Council meeting the guidelines and call for applications for grants intended for sports clubs, federations, and individual athletes to cover travel expenses to official national and international competitions, with a budget of 480,000 euros for the period from July 1 to December 31, 2024. The main change is the simplification of the application process.

The Island Councilor for Sports, Yolanda Moliné, notes that “at the Island Council, we are very aware of the unique circumstances of our athletes and clubs that participate in national competitions and the costs associated with travel. That is why we have worked to continue providing support so that travel costs do not prevent them from competing, just as we have worked to streamline the bureaucratic process. Sports on the island are a priority for the Tenerife Island Council.”

Eligible recipients of this aid include sports clubs in Tenerife that are duly registered in the Canary Islands’ registry of sports organizations; regional or island-level federations, although in the case of the Canary Islands federations, only athletes residing in Tenerife and individual athletes residing on the island are eligible, including minors and individuals with a disability rating of more than 33% who participate in official sports competitions as individuals and hold resident status.

With regard to teams, a maximum of 18 eligible travelers is established, including coaches and delegates, provided that they are listed on the corresponding competition roster. In the case of team-based adapted sports, provided that the maximum of 18 traveling team members is not exceeded, one accompanying person will be counted for every two traveling athletes.

Furthermore, it should be noted that these grants are compatible with receiving other forms of assistance for the same purpose, provided that such assistance comes from other public administrations and is documented at the time of application through a sworn statement.
