The athlete will begin his journey on June 10 in La Graciosa and will complete the challenge at the Farola del Mar in Santa Cruz de Tenerife

The Island Councilor for Sports, Concepción Rivero, today expressed the Tenerife Island Council’s support for runner David Ledesma, who will begin his “Faro a Faro 8 Ultra Trail Islas Canarias” challenge on June 10 in La Graciosa to benefit “Pequeño Valiente,” an association for children with cancer.

During the meeting, which took place at the Tenerife Athletics Center (CIAT), Concepción Rivero wished the athlete good luck as he sets out to connect the lighthouses of the eight islands to raise awareness of the work of this association, whose main goal is to meet the needs of sick children and their families.

David Ledesma expresses his gratitude for the support and says that “this is a difficult challenge because of the physical demands of covering the planned distances, especially on the island of Tenerife, with its steep slopes, and on Fuerteventura, due to its arid terrain” but he adds that “raising awareness of Pequeño Valiente’s work will give him the strength he needs.”

Ledesma, who will cover a total of 640 kilometers in 10 days, plans to complete the journey on June 19 at the Farola del Mar lighthouse in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, after passing by lighthouses on all eight islands in stages of at least 80 kilometers each day.

The Canarian Pequeño Valiente Foundation, recipient of the 2016 Canary Islands Solidarity Award, serves 579 people, including sick children and their families. Providing psychological and educational support, improving healthcare for children, offering housing to families who relocate from other islands, fostering study and research on childhood cancer, and promoting activities outside the hospital to facilitate communication and support among those affected are some of the foundation’s objectives, in addition to raising awareness about childhood cancer among the general public.
