The City Council launches a virtual platform for exercising at home

Friday, 03 April 2020

The island’s Sports Minister, Concepción Rivero, explains that “Espacio DXT Salud” will offer a variety of exercises led by certified professionals who will interact with participants

The Tenerife Island Council, through its Sports Department, headed by Concepción Rivero, has created a virtual platform so that residents can engage in physical activity and sports from home. This initiative, called Espacio DXT Salud, will allow users to do various exercises guided by professionals with degrees in Physical Activity and Sports Sciences via a YouTube channel.

Concepción Rivero explains that this is an innovative project “that will make it easier to exercise—one we’ve already been working on—so it will be especially useful during the state of emergency and for the duration of the lockdown, and it will continue to operate once we return to normal.”

The councilor notes that every day, starting today, Friday, April 3, at 9:00 a.m., a video featuring exercises will be uploaded to the Espacio DXT Salud YouTube channel, along with guidelines for engaging in healthy physical activity. In addition, the videos will specify whether the exercises have any contraindications for certain groups and will offer basic tips for safe, efficient, and effective physical activity.

This way, anyone who wants to can establish a daily exercise routine that will help improve their physical and mental health and, above all, develop the habit of staying active, with simple exercises led by professionals who will also interact with users through the comments section.

“We want an active citizenry that incorporates physical activity into their daily routine, given the benefits it brings,” says the island councilor, who adds that in future phases of the project, the range of offerings will be expanded “so that everyone has appropriate and personalized options.”
