The Cabildo Games cross-country final brings together 500 athletes in Tegueste

The event took place on Saturday at the Los Zamorano estate racetrack and was attended by the island’s Sports Minister, Concepción Rivero

The cross-country final of the Tenerife Cabildo Games, organized by the Island Council in collaboration with the DISA Foundation, brought together 500 athletes from different categories last Saturday in the municipality of Tegueste. The event, held on the course at the Los Zamorano estate, was attended by the Regional Minister of Sports, Concepción Rivero.

In the under-10 category (1,000 meters), Adrián Paz (Guaiman) and Lucía Coello (Milla) took first place, while in the under-12 category (1,400 meters), the winners were Mauro González (Aguere) and Olga Gutiérrez (Clator). In the under-14 category, the winners of the competition were Carla Hodgson and Óscar Hernández, both from the Milla club, who covered a distance of 2,600 meters in the fastest time. As for the U-16 category (2,600 meters), first place went to Jacqueline Piñana (C.A. Arona) and Yediel Calvo (Clator).

In addition, over the weekend, events were held in six other sports, bringing together more than 2,350 athletes. The second day of frontenis, held at the Real Club Náutico de Tenerife and the Jardín del Mar (Tabaiba), brought together players from the Olympic cadet, pre-Olympic junior, as well as benjamín and alevín categories.

Badminton competitions were also held, bringing together about a hundred participants in El Rosario, as well as the second day of water polo, which took place at the Reales pool in Los Realejos with about 80 participants. The activities were rounded out by Canarian wrestling matches held at various arenas across the island and games in the island’s volleyball and handball leagues.

The Tenerife Cabildo Games, now in their 33rd year, feature 26 sports disciplines representing 22 different federations. Their goal is not only to provide children with access to sports competition but also to promote a healthy and active lifestyle and to reinforce other values such as hard work, solidarity, and camaraderie.
