Manuel Anguita and Eva María Sperger win the flagship race of the Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB

Runners Manuel Anguita and Eva María Sperger won the 110K category of the Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB, the race’s flagship event, after covering the distance between Los Cristianos Beach and the finish line at Martiánez Beach in Puerto de la Cruz. Anguita completed the course in 12:54:24, and Eva María Sperger finished with a time of 15:18:55.

Athletes Riccardo Montani and Martyna Mlynarczyk (73K), **Oswaldo Medina and Maude Mathys** (47K), Jesús Moreno and Álvaro Caballero, and Leandra ABT and Kleiter Alexeja (47K Relay), as well as Eduard Hernández and Vanessa Caba (24K), were the winners in their respective categories. In addition, a new edition of the Bluetrail Challenge was held, in which 30 people with disabilities participated in the 8-, 5-, and 1-kilometer races.

The thirteenth edition of the Tenerife race, organized by the Cabildo through the public company Ideco, drew 3,200 runners from 66 countries who competed in some of the race’s 10 categories.

The awards ceremony was attended by the president of the Tenerife Island Council, Rosa Dávila; the vice president of the Island Council, Lope Afonso; the island’s councilor for Sports, Yolanda Moliné; the mayor of Puerto de la Cruz, Marco González; the CEO of Ideco, Manolo Gómez; as well as representatives from the event’s sponsoring and partner companies.

This year, the Tenerife race has joined the UTMB World Series—the world’s most important trail running circuit—marking a major step forward in its internationalization. By completing four of its events, runners can earn Running Stones, which grant access to the sport’s premier mountain race: the HOKA UTMB® Mont-Blanc, held in late August in Chamonix, France.

Specifically, these are the Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB® 110K / 6,250m+ (100M category – 4 Running Stones); the 73K / 3,150m+ race (100K category – 3 Running Stones); the Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB® 47K / 2,600m+ (50K category – 2 Running Stones); and the 24K / 1,300m+ race (20K category – 1 Running Stone).

The Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB is organized in collaboration with Turismo de Tenerife, through the brand “Tenerife despierta emociones,” DXTenerife, and Promotur with its brand “Islas Canarias latitud de vida,” as well as with the support of Fred. The race proceeded normally, with the usual incidents that occur in this type of event. As for the setbacks reported, most were related to exhaustion, general discomfort, or injuries. A total of 59 women and 197 men withdrew from the race.

The Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB is a very challenging race. The various routes and the terrain require the coordinated mobilization of some 700 people, including staff from the Island Council, the Civil Guard, local police from the municipalities through which the race passes, staff from Teide National Park, civil protection agencies from across the island, QRV Emergencias, Ayuda en Emergencias Anaga, ADAE, and various volunteer associations and groups, among others.

This equipment was strategically placed along the entire course to assist the runners and address all the needs that arise during an event of this magnitude.

The organization also relied on nearly 200 volunteers who performed various tasks, such as preparing the runner’s bags, distributing race numbers, providing support at the starting lines for the different race categories, handing out supplies at the finish line, coordinating with the transportation taking runners to Santa Cruz or La Laguna, and providing refreshments along the various courses, among other tasks. Manuel Anguita completed the 110K course of the flagship race of the Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB in 12:54:22. Second place went to Jordi Gamito (13:28:27), while third place went to Rubén Dieguez, with a time of 13:42:27.

In the women’s category, Eva María Sperger crossed the finish line in 15:18:55, and the runner-up, Gitana Akmanaviciute, finished in 17:00:41. The third athlete to cross the finish line at Martiánez Beach was Claire Heslop, who finished in 17:39:51.

Riccardo Montani was the first to finish the 73K race, which started at 6:00 AM in Vilaflor, with a time of 6:45:18, ahead of Elliot Phillippon, who finished in 6:51:45. Kevin Roux came in third with a time of 6:56:35.

In the women’s category, Martyna MlynarczyK is the new champion in this event, winning with a time of 07:29:41 ahead of Gemma Arenas, who crossed the finish line in second place with a time of 07:48:47. Third place went to Celia Balcells, who finished in 08:01:36.

Oswaldo Medina (47K) was the winner of this category with a time of 03:56:10, followed by Marcos Ramos (03:56:37) and Joaquín Narvaez, who finished in 03:58:08. In the women’s race, Maude Mathys (04:25:50) was the first to cross the finish line in Puerto de la Cruz, ahead of Marta Pérez (04:45:12) and Sonia Vizcaíno (04:45:25).

47K Relay The duo of Jesús Moreno and Álvaro Caballero won this event at the Tenerife Bluetrail in the men’s category after completing the 47-kilometer

race (22.5 kilometers + 24.5 kilometers) in a time of 04:08:49. Rounding out the podium were José Diego Blanco and Francisco Manuel Pérez (04:44:33) and Axier Urresti and Txema Miguélez (04:49:49).

In the women’s division, the team of Leandra ABT and Kleiter Alexeja won this category of the Tenerife Bluetrail after completing the 47-kilometer race in a time of 05:39:17. Rounding out the podium were África Vidina Thadani and Miriam González with a time of 06:19:17, and in third place, Libertad Rivero and Candelaria Paula Jiménez with a time of 06:38:42.

In the 24K race, Eduard Hernández and Fran Anguita took first place with a time of 02:01:09. Third place went to Arezki Habibin with a time of 02:05:19. In the women’s category, Vanessa Caba took the top spot on the podium with a time of 02:30:01, followed by Laura Gion (02:39:57) and Miriam Gambín (02:45:33), who finished second and third, respectively.

Bluetrail Challenge: The Inclusive Race Inclusion has once again been one of the core values of the 2024 Tenerife Bluetrail. Thirty athletes participated in the Challenge category, spread across three courses measuring 8, 5, and 1 kilometer.

In addition, the 5-kilometer Family Race and the Peque Race were held.
