The Tenerife Bluetrail fills 97% of its 2,200 places two months before the race

The Tenerife Bluetrail, organized by the Tenerife Island Council (Cabildo) through the public company Ideco, the Sports Department, and Tenerife Tourism, which will take place from June 3rd to 5th, has already filled 97% of its 2,200 available places. Four of its seven categories—Marathon, Half Marathon, Trail, and Trail Relay—have sold out, including places on the waiting list. Registration for the Ultra and Vertical races, the only ones available, can still be completed through the official race website www.tenerifebluetrail.com.

The Island Councillor for Sports, Concepción Rivero, values ​​the “enormous interest” that the Tenerife Bluetrail generates among athletes, “as demonstrated by the fact that in just one weekend practically all the available places in the shorter, though no less demanding, races were sold out.” Rivero explains that at the moment only about thirty places are available for the Ultra and about twenty for the Vertical category, with registration for the Bluetrail Challenge, designed for people with disabilities, expected to open shortly.

For his part, the Councilor responsible for Tourism and President of Turismo de Tenerife, José Gregorio Martín Plata, affirms that the island is committed to quality products that differentiate it from other destinations. “And the Tenerife Bluetrail combines sustainability and respect for nature in unique landscapes, along with the sporting activity, which also attracts a significant number of visitors to our island.”

Martín Plata argued, in fact, that “almost 20% of the tourists who came to the island in 2019 participated in sports” and that “among the more than 2,200 registered participants are athletes from various countries who, attracted by the route and the prestige the event has acquired, are drawn to come to the island to carry out the test with all safety measures. And they’re not the only ones.”

The Tenerife Bluetrail, Spain’s highest mountain race, celebrates its tenth anniversary this year, becoming for the first time the Spanish Ultra Championship for individuals and regional teams, a competition organized by the Spanish Federation of Mountain Sports and Climbing (FEDME).

The race will also count towards the Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc (UTMB), the world’s most prestigious event in this discipline. Thus, the Tenerife race will once again offer points awarded by the International Trail Running Association (ITRA) in five of its distances, which are valid for the UTMB. The Ultra version (105 km) will award 5 points, while the Trail (71 km) will award 3 points, and the relay will award two points to each runner. The Marathon (42 km) will award 2 points and the Half Marathon (20 km), 1 point.

The Sports Councilor reminds us that the next edition of the Tenerife Bluetrail will be adapted in each of its distances to Strict health protocols will be in place. “Limiting the number of participants to a maximum of 500 per category, restructuring race times to avoid athletes coinciding at certain points along the course, staggered starts with mandatory mask use, and adapting aid stations to current health measures are some of the measures included in the race’s COVID protocol,” says Concepción Rivero.

In addition, all runners will be required to carry a mask for use at certain times, such as on official runner transport, at the start and finish lines, or wherever the organizers determine. However, all health protocols will be updated according to the evolution of the pandemic and the guidelines issued by health authorities in June.
