Tenerife Bluetrail opens registration for people with disabilities who want to participate in the Challenge

The Tenerife Bluetrail 2021, a mountain race taking place from June 3rd to 5th, has opened registration for the fifth edition of the Bluetrail Challenge, a non-competitive event for people with disabilities. This was announced today by the Island Councillor for Sports, Concepción Rivero, who stated that “the organizers have reserved 100 places for these athletes, which are fully subsidized by the Island Council.” Those interested can register at www.tenerifebluetrail.com

Rivero explains that inclusivity is once again one of the main values ​​of the Tenerife Bluetrail “because we not only want to have a spectacular race, with a route through a World Heritage Site like Teide National Park, but we also want the race to be open to everyone.” The island councilor emphasizes that the Challenge has become “one of the most beautiful and highly valued events, both by participants and the public, because it is very exciting to see these athletes live, completely dedicated to the race, in what is a clear example of overcoming adversity that we should all look to.”

For his part, the CEO of Tenerife Tourism, David Pérez, values ​​what it means for the island “to be known and recognized for an event that also addresses key aspects such as those included in Tenerife’s designation as the first Smart Territory in Spain: accessibility.” He adds that “incorporating such an important parameter for a destination as the fact that it can be visited by people with any type of physical or sensory disability is, for us, an essential commitment, and one in which, through our support of events like the Bluetrail, we reaffirm our dedication.”

The Bluetrail Challenge will take place on June 5th, starting at 4:00 PM, with three different distances. The first, an 8-kilometer route, will begin at the Mirador de San Pedro (Los Realejos), while the second, a 3.7-kilometer course, will start from Playa Jardín. The third option, a 1.2-kilometer race, will have its starting arch located at the Casa de La Aduana (Customs House). The finish line will be in the Lago Martiánez area (Puerto de la Cruz), where the Ultra, Trail, Marathon, and Half Marathon races also finish.

Participation in the Tenerife Bluetrail Challenge is open to all athletes over 18 years of age with a certified disability, who are registered with any sports federation, or who present a medical certificate confirming their ability to complete a race of this type. Participants’ race times will be recorded, but these will not be considered in any way, as the goal is to complete the course to the finish line at Lago Martiánez in Puerto de la Cruz, with each participant overcoming their own challenges.

The Tenerife Bluetrail 2021, organized by the Cabildo through the public company  Ideco, the Sports and Tourism Area of ​​Tenerife, has the collaboration of companies such as Fred. Olsen, Hospiten, Physiorelax, Isola Frutos Secos que Acompañan, Cajamar, Libby’s Canarias, La Fast and Fonteide.
