The German series *Balko Tenerife*, currently filming on the island, has chosen the Tenerife Athletics Center as one of its filming locations. This is the first episode of the return of this popular series, which between 1995 and 2006 drew audiences of up to six million viewers per episode, generating considerable excitement in Germany.

Filming for *Balko Tenerife*, with an estimated budget of over one million euros, began on October 21st and will continue until November 21st. Approximately 80 people are working on the production, nearly 60 of whom were hired locally. In addition, 150 extras and background actors have participated in various scenes, including a car chase in Puerto de la Cruz and a banquet with German star Uschi Glass.

Tenerife Tourism, through the Tenerife Film Commission, has provided information and support for the filming by managing the necessary permits. The entity, which is part of the Island Council, is also contributing to the promotion of the filming, which will help raise the island’s profile as a tourist destination in Germany.

The first episode of the new season will be filmed entirely on the island, specifically in the municipalities of Los Realejos, Puerto de la Cruz, Santa Cruz, La Laguna, and Vilaflor.

The Island Director of Tourism, Laura Castro, who recently visited the film set located on Las Teresitas beach, confirms that the island “continues to be a benchmark as an open-air filming location for major productions” and asserts that this type of filming “positions Tenerife on the international map of the film industry.”

Guido Reinhardt, head of the production company in charge of filming (Ufa Fiction), says they chose to film on the island because of its diverse landscape, “offering mountains, beaches, and cities,” as well as the tax deduction available for international productions.

Production services for Balko in Tenerife were provided by Film Canary Islands. The series will air on the German network RTL, and Reinhardt reveals that the island will be “a main character in the series, giving it a very special feel.”

The facility managed by Ideco already has experience as a filming location for other productions such as the Spanish film ‘Los Japón’, starring Dani Rovira, and the Apple TV series ‘Foundation’.
