The Minister of Sports, Concepción Rivero, reports that the subsidy has been increased by 35.42%, reaching 1,250,000 euros, which will help to promote sport among young people

The Governing Council of the Tenerife Island Council approved this morning the regulatory framework and the call for applications for subsidies intended to support the youth development programs of the island’s sports clubs this year, with a budget of 1,250,000 euros. This funding represents a 35.42% increase compared to the 2020 call for proposals.

The Councilor for Sports, Concepción Rivero, explains that for her department, “promoting sports and investing in youth development is a constant priority, which is why a significant effort has been made to increase the funding by €327,000.” She affirms that this funding will allow many organizations to cover some of the expenses they incur to maintain their grassroots programs, such as sports licenses and insurance for those under 18 in various disciplines, the purchase of equipment and materials, and the costs of hiring certified referees for competitions.

For her part, the Island Director of Sports, Laura Castro, emphasizes that “the 1.2 multiplier for women’s licenses remains in place. This funding demonstrates the institution’s commitment to supporting clubs and its efforts to break down gender barriers.”

In this call for applications, the number of licenses held by athletes under 18 years of age remains the primary criterion for calculating the subsidy. Clubs specializing in traditional and indigenous sports are excluded, as they have their own funding programs. However, sports clubs in Tenerife that participate in football and basketball are eligible to apply for this subsidy.
