The Cabildo allocates 2.3 million to sports teams that compete in the national category

The Governing Council of the Island Council has approved a grant of 2,316,000 euros for sports clubs participating in the top categories of official non-professional national competitions. The aim of the elite grants is to provide resources to clubs to cover a portion of the expenses generated by their participation in the aforementioned competitions during the season.

The Island Councillor for Sports, Concepción Rivero, indicates that “these subsidies are intended to strengthen the structure of the non-professional teams that represent Tenerife in national competitions so that they can meet their expenses. We are aware of the financial difficulties the clubs face and we try to help them by processing the payments as quickly as possible.”

Rivero notes that, as in previous years, there are evaluation criteria, a special coefficient for women’s sports, and another for people with disabilities, to take their specific needs into account.

The Island Director of Sports, Ángel Pérez, points out that “this aid includes payments to players, coaches, and other club staff; travel, accommodation, meal, and transportation expenses; and housing rentals.” for the accommodation of players and coaches of the national-level team; payments to Social Security or the Tax Administration; federation expenses such as competition registration fees, referee fees and rights, licenses, sports insurance, and similar costs; and expenses for sports equipment, for example, those related to prevention measures adopted to address the health crisis caused by Covid-19.”

Grants may be requested once they are published in the Official Gazette of the Province.
