Each municipality will have the opportunity to select the five priority projects for its municipality
The Tenerife Island Council, through its Sports Department managed by Councilor Concepción Rivero, has finalized the drafting of the future Tenerife Sports Infrastructure Plan. This document outlines the construction of priority facilities for each of the island’s 31 municipalities, as well as establishing new initiatives within the sports programs that the Island Council will develop over the next five years.
The Councilor notes that “the actions included in the new Plan, scheduled for implementation between 2022 and 2026, will encompass various lines of work, including outdoor sports facilities, artificial turf fields, the Island Swimming Pool Plan, and new, unique spaces.”
Concepción Rivero explains that “the administrative procedures for its approval and budget allocation will now begin. The Plan will modernize and complete the network of sports facilities and infrastructure in Tenerife.”
“With the implementation of this Tenerife Sports Infrastructure Plan, each municipality will have the opportunity to select the five priority projects for their town,” states the Island Councilor, who adds that, for the Island Council, it is very important to invest by consensus.
The implementation of the Tenerife Sports Infrastructure Plan will improve and facilitate sports participation for citizens and will also continue to promote the island as a tourist destination for amateur and professional athletes from around the world who want to train at a high level in top-notch facilities year-round. Furthermore, Tenerife hosts various events that count towards international championships. “For all these reasons, this plan would have a positive impact on the creation of direct and indirect jobs, thus reducing the unemployment rate that the island currently faces,” Rivero points out.
The Island Director of Sports, Ángel Pérez, explains that this plan is based on an analysis of the population’s habits and use of sports facilities, their needs, new trends, and sporting demands.
To develop the plan, a mapping of current facilities, their characteristics, and shortcomings was carried out. At the same time, new facilities have been planned, taking into account their refurbishability, sustainability, and compliance with the parameters of sustainable development, modernization, and technology.
For the Sports Department, increasing physical activity and promoting sports among the entire population of the island is a priority. To this end, quality, accessible facilities have been created and continue to be provided to all municipalities, enabling residents of every region to stay active.
