The event is part of the initiatives included in the “Women and Sports” program for the month of April
The Tenerife Athletics Center (CIAT) will host on April 20, starting at 10:00 a.m., one of three activities scheduled for April as part of the Cabildo’s“Women and Sports” program, which aims to introduce women ages 14 and older to physical and sports activities. The event is titled “Nutrition for Active Women” and will be led by Marta Rodríguez Pardo, who holds a bachelor’s degree in biology, a master’s degree in human nutrition and dietetics, and a Ph.D. in pharmacology.
This training aims to raise awareness among women about the importance of nutrition and how it affects their health. Participants will be provided with tools to identify their nutritional needs at each stage of life and receive recommendations based on their individual levels of physical activity.
Other sessions
The first event scheduled for April is titled “Squats Against Cancer” and aims to raise awareness among women about the importance of physical exercise before, during, and after cancer treatment as an effective tool for improving their quality of life. This workshop will take place on Saturday, the 6th, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Los Cristianos Municipal Sports Pavilion in the municipality of Arona. It will be led by Laura Capdevila Riverola, who holds a degree in Physical Activity and Sports Sciences with a specialization in physical exercise and cancer, and Pilar Caba Hernández, a world sailing champion who was diagnosed with leukemia in 2022.
The next workshop will be on “Pelvic Floor and Hypopressive Exercises” and will take place on Saturday, April 13, at the University of La Laguna’s Sports Department facilities. There will be two sessions: a beginner-level session (at 9:00 a.m.) and an advanced-level session (at 11:00 a.m.), the latter aimed at those who have had some prior experience with pelvic floor exercises or have practiced hypopressive exercises.
Strengthening the pelvic floor is essential for women of all ages, since every time we walk, run, or lift weights, our muscles weaken. Proper pelvic floor training helps prevent and treat urinary incontinence, improves sexual relations, corrects posture, and strengthens the muscles during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period.
These workshops are led by Sara Suárez García and Aroa Álvarez González, who hold bachelor’s degrees in Physical Activity and Sports Sciences and specialize in training programs for women.
All events are free of charge and have limited space, so advance registration on the Sports Department’s website is required. Registration for each activity will open on the Monday of the week before the event takes place.
