CIAT Unveils New, Safer, and More Modern Seats

The Tenerife Island Council, through the public company Ideco, has completed the installation of new seats in the stands at the Tenerife Athletics Center (CIAT), a project aimed at improving the safety, comfort, and functionality of this leading sports facility on the island.

During her visit to the center yesterday, Thursday afternoon, the Councilor for Sports, Yolanda Moliné, emphasized that “this project reflects the Cabildo’s commitment to the ongoing modernization of our sports facilities. “The renovation of the bleacher seats not only improves the facility’s appearance but also ensures optimal safety and comfort for athletes, coaches, and spectators.”

Moliné also noted that “over the past year, CIAT has undergone various improvements, such as the resurfacing of the outdoor track, the purchase of new equipment for the gym, and the installation of an additional throwing cage. The installation of a solar power system at the center has also been completed, and the lighting on the main track has been replaced with LED technology. All of these measures will help modernize this world-class sports facility, which is used by more than 1,300 athletes each month.”

The renovation work carried out on the bleachers consisted of the complete replacement of the existing seats, which were installed in 2007 when the CIAT opened and had been affected by the passage of time and weather conditions, leading to deterioration such as cracks, discoloration, and loss of stability. The new seats, made of high-strength materials with UV protection, comply with current technical regulations regarding sports facilities and risk prevention.

The work carried out, with a budget of 66,338 euros, included the dismantling and removal of the old seats, waste management in accordance with environmental regulations, the supply of new equipment, and the complete installation of the new components, ensuring the proper securing, alignment, and safety of the entire grandstand.

Yolanda Moliné visited the athletes from Tenerife CajaCanarias, Milla Chicharrera, Trotamundos de Candelaria, Olympus, and CCT Santa Cruz at the facility.

The Sports Minister noted that next week the CIAT will host the Canarias Athletic Invitational, a high-level sporting event that will feature prominent international athletes such as Yulimar Rojas, a living legend of the triple jump; Mariano García, one of the leading figures in Spanish middle-distance running; and Matt Denny, one of the best discus throwers in history. “The Tenerife Athletics Center is thus establishing itself as a key sports facility and a premier venue for top-tier competitions, as is the case here,” Moliné noted.
