The sports event, aimed at children ages 8 to 12, took place at the Iván Rodríguez Ramallo Stadium in Los Realejos

A group of students from the Tenerife Athletics Center (CIAT) recently participated in the first day of competition in this sport at the Cabildo Games in the “Playing Track and Field” category, designed for the under-8, under-10, and under-12 age groups. The event, which brought together some 500 athletes, was held at the Iván Rodríguez Ramallo Stadium in Los Realejos.

The Cabildo Games is a project to promote grassroots sports in which young people ages 6 to 17 from all of the island’s municipalities participate. This season’s program includes 176 events spread over 33 days between December 2022 and June 2023, featuring 30 different sports.

The Cabildo Games include competitions in the following sports: chess, track and field, badminton, basketball, handball, baseball, Canarian ball, cross-country, cycling, frontenis, indoor soccer, rhythmic gymnastics, judo, Canarian motor sports, Canarian wrestling, swimming, artistic swimming, orienteering, figure skating, freestyle skating, rugby, lifesaving, surfing, taekwondo, table tennis, triathlon, volleyball, beach volleyball, sailing, and water polo.

Each sport has its own training system; in some cases, these will be qualifying competitions for a final phase, and in others, they will be competitive training camps. In addition, the project provides its own transportation service for the athletes and distributes identification shirts to ensure that all participants have the minimum required equipment for the various sports disciplines.
