The activities will take place over seven weeks, from June 27 to August 12
The Tenerife Island Council is organizing a summer camp for children ages 5 to 13 at the Tenerife Athletics Center (CIAT), a facility managed by the public company Ideco. The camp, which will run for seven weeks from June 27 to August 12, includes a variety of sports and recreational activities.
The island’s Sports Minister, Concepción Rivero, explains that “the camp will allow participants to enjoy a few days of outdoor fun while getting started in a sport as well-rounded as track and field.” Rivero emphasizes that “this is an excellent opportunity for young children to participate in sports in a different and fun way, while combining it with workshops, popular and traditional games, and outings to the countryside and the beach.”
The Tenerife Athletics Center camp runs for a total of seven weeks, but participants can choose to attend one or more weeks independently. The dates are June 27 through July 1; July 4 through 8; July 11 through 15; July 18–22; July 25–29; August 1–5; and August 8–12.
Camp participants will take part in various activities related to track and field and all its disciplines, such as running, jumping, and throwing, but they will also play other sports like pelota base, soccer, field hockey , and ultimate. Popular and traditional games such as Canarian ball, bottle caps, sack races, marbles, and tag will also play a prominent role during the camp, which also includes workshops on balloon twisting, recycling, painting, crafts, and environmental awareness. The children will also have the opportunity to take a field trip to the beach and hike along a trail to learn basic orienteering skills during their outing.
The organization offers the option of having lunch on-site, so there will be two schedules: from 8:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. (with lunch) and from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. (without lunch). In addition, there is the option of free early drop-off starting at 7:30 a.m. Summer camp prices are 90 euros per week (with lunch) and 70 euros (without lunch), although an additional discount is offered if multiple siblings enroll.
Those interested in the camps can request more information by calling 922 61 53 38, where CIAT’s customer service staff will explain the steps to follow to complete the registration process.
