The 3.5-kilometer race took place tonight in El Asomadero (Los Realejos), an iconic spot for runners

Álvaro Escuela Perdomo (00:29:27) and Mireia Pons Torres (00:35:36) were crowned winners tonight of the Vertical Night Challenge, the night race of the Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB. The race, which began at 9:00 p.m. from El Asomadero (Los Realejos), featured 137 athletes who covered a distance of 3.5 kilometers up a vertical face with an elevation gain of more than 630 meters.

Second and third place in the men’s category went to Arezki Habibi (00:29:57) and Raúl Díaz Perdomo (00:30:54), respectively, while the women’s podium was rounded out by Estela Guerra (00:35:53) and Beatrice Meloni (00:37:17), who finished second and third in the race.

The island’s Sports Minister, Yolanda Moliné, notes that the Vertical “marks the kickoff for the 2024 Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB, a race that this year joins the UTMB World Series circuit, the most important in the world.”

As for the Vertical race, Yolanda Moliné notes that “this year we’ve once again included El Asomadero in the race—one of the most challenging and iconic courses for runners—with the added difficulty of running it at night, which poses an extra challenge for the athletes participating in the event.”

The course for the 2024 Vertical Night Challenge, with a 760-meter elevation gain, runs along an imposing vertical cliff face that attracts even runners who also participate in other disciplines but use the Vertical race as training.

The Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB event will continue tomorrow, Saturday, June 8, with the remaining races: the 110K, the 73K, the 47K, and the 24K, as well as the 47K relay race and the three categories of the Challenge. The finish line for all races will be located on Martiánez Beach in Puerto de la Cruz.

The Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB is organized in collaboration with Turismo de Tenerife, through the brand “Tenerife despierta emociones,” DXTenerife, and Promotur with its brand “Islas Canarias latitud de vida,” as well as with the support of Fred.
