A total of 3,200 athletes from 66 countries will compete in the Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB®

The Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB®, the mountain race organized by the Cabildo through the public company Ideco, will feature a total of 3,200 runners from 66 countries following the close of registration. The Tenerife race, the highest-altitude race in Spain, will take place from June 6 to 8 with ten race categories.

The island’s Sports Minister, Yolanda Moliné, emphasizes that “the decision to join the UTMB® World Series—the most important in the world—has meant a major quantitative and qualitative leap forward for the race, which has sparked the interest of runners from all over the world who want to come and compete in a unique race and one of the few that passes through a World Heritage Site.”

Yolanda Moliné notes that “this year we have twice as many nationalities as last year, when we had participants from 33 countries, more women competing, and a total of 1,463 runners from the Canary Islands.”

A breakdown of registered participants shows that Spaniards, French, British, and Italians make up the largest groups, followed by Portuguese, Belgians, and Germans, although there are also athletes from less common countries such as Oman, South Korea, and the United States. Of the 3,200 runners participating in this year’s edition of the Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB®, 22% are women, which is one percentage point more than in the previous edition.

The race, which will mark its 13th edition in 2024, offers four race categories through which runners can earn Running Stones, which grant access to the most important mountain race in the sport: the Hoka UTMB® Mont-Blanc, held in late August in Chamonix (France). Specifically, these are the Tenerife Bluetrail 110K / 6,250m+ (100M category – 4 Running Stones); the Tenerife Bluetrail 73K / 3,150m+ (100K category – 3 Running Stones); the Tenerife Bluetrail 47K / 2,600m+ (50K category – 2 Running Stones); and the Tenerife Bluetrail 24K / 1,300m+ (20K category – 1 Running Stone).

In addition to these races, there are other events such as the Tenerife Bluetrail 47K Relay, a 47-kilometer relay race, and the 3.5-kilometer Vertical Night Challenge. Children’s and family races, as well as the adapted Reto and Joëlettes races, round out the options for participants.

The Tenerife Bluetrail UTMB® 2024 will kick off on June 6 with bib distribution at the Expodeporte expo, which will be held at the Tenerife Fairgrounds. That same day, starting at 9:00 p.m., the Vertical race will take place in the Asomadero area (Los Realejos). The following day, at 11:00 p.m., the main event of the race—the 110K—will begin, and the remaining races will take place on June 8. The finish line for the Tenerife Bluetrail, which will pass through seven municipalities, will be located at Martiánez Beach in Puerto de la Cruz.
