Thursday, 07 April 2022

The exhibition, which spans from the 1948 London Games to Tokyo 2020, will be expanded as new athletic achievements are made

The Tenerife Island Council is recognizing the achievements of Tenerife athletes who have competed in various Olympic and Paralympic Games with a permanent exhibition at the Tenerife Athletics Center (CIAT). The Vice President of the Island Council, Enrique Arriaga, and the Island Councilor for Sports, Concepción Rivero, inaugurated this retrospective this afternoon, which aims to highlight the Olympic achievements of Tenerife’s athletes.

The event was also attended by the island’s director of sports, Ángel Luis Pérez Peña, some of the athletes being honored, and representatives from the various federations.

Vice President Arriaga highlighted “the effort and dedication of these athletes, who have managed to raise Tenerife’s name to the highest level in every Olympic competition in which they have participated—achievements we wish to honor with this exhibition, which aims to express the gratitude of the entire island.”

Concepción Rivero explained that the exhibition, on display in the CIAT training gallery, spans from the 1948 London Games to Tokyo 2020. “There are nearly fifty athletes from about twenty sports, featuring not only the medals won since then but also the Olympic and Paralympic diplomas.”

The exhibition, which consists of 13 panels, each covering a different Olympic Games, the athletes who participated in them, and their results, will be open to the general public from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Groups must make an appointment in advance by emailing ciat@idecogestion.net
