The Cabildo facility is offering 350 spots over seven weeks so that young children can participate in sports in a different and fun way
The island’s Sports Minister, Concepción Rivero, visited today the summer camp currently taking place at the Tenerife Athletics Center (CIAT), in which a total of 52 children are participating. The facility, owned by the Island Council and managed by the public company Ideco, offers a total of 350 spots at its camp between June 27 and August 12.
Concepción Rivero points out that “this campus achieves something very important: it encourages children to engage in outdoor physical activity while introducing them to a sport as well-rounded as track and field at state-of-the-art facilities like those at CIAT.”
The councilor explains that “this is a great opportunity for the youngest children to combine sports with other recreational activities, such as workshops, popular and traditional games, and outings to the countryside and the beach, which add a fun element to their stay on campus.”
The Tenerife Athletics Center camp runs for a total of seven weeks, but participants can choose to attend one or more weeks independently. The dates are June 27 through July 1; July 4 through 8; July 11 through 15; July 18–22; July 25–29; August 1–5; and August 8–12.
Camp participants take part in various activities related to track and field and all its disciplines, such as running, jumping, and throwing, but they will also play other sports like pelota base, soccer, field hockey, and ultimate. Popular and traditional games such as Canarian ball, bottle caps, sack races, marbles, and tag also play a prominent role during the camp, which also includes workshops on balloon twisting, recycling, painting, arts and crafts, and environmental awareness.
Campus Week ends on Fridays with an activity in the mountains or at the beach, where students can participate in sports such as hiking, orienteering, or fun water games in a natural setting.
Those interested in the camps can request more information by calling 922 61 53 38, where CIAT’s customer service staff will explain the steps to follow to complete the registration process.
