Nearly 4,000 athletes participated in the race

Jonay González and Johana Ardel, in the 5-kilometer race, and the Kenyans Nehemiah Kipyegon and Valentine Jebet, won the events at the Chicharrera Night Run, which drew nearly 4,000 athletes

A group of students from the CIAT Athletics School participated last Saturday, the 21st, in the Binter Night Run, a nighttime fun run through Santa Cruz organized in collaboration with the Cabildo through Ideco. A green wave of nearly 4,000 people took to the streets of Tenerife’s capital to enjoy a night of sports and fun along a route that featured a mix of lights and music.

The Binter Night Run in Santa Cruz featured three routes: the “Green Mile,” a charity walk of approximately 1.5 kilometers to benefit the Tenerife Association of Parents of Children with Autism (Apanate), which raised more than 3,000 euros, and two competitive races of 5 and 10 kilometers.

Jonay González, an athlete with Bikila Canarias, was the first to cross the finish line in the 5-kilometer race, ahead of Antonio Yeray Sierra and Raúl González. Johana Ardel was the first to finish in the women’s category, followed by veteran Sonia Prieto and María Isabel Calcines.

In the 10-kilometer race, first place went to Kenyan Neheremiah Kipyegon, while the silver medal went to his compatriot Dominick Kipkirui and the bronze to Canarian record-holder Fran Cabrera Galindo.

In the women’s race, the winner was African athlete Valentine Jebet, followed by Sandra Trujillo and Paula Mayobre.
