The race, which will take place from June 8 to 10, involves a support team of more than 700 people

The organizers of the 2023 Tenerife Bluetrail—Spain’s highest-altitude mountain race, which will take place June 8–10—have inspected the 13 aid stations scheduled for race day and located along the courses for each race category.

The island’s Sports Minister, Concepción Rivero, explains that, with three weeks to go before the race, “we are finalizing the logistical arrangements to ensure everything is ready for the event, which this year includes new races for families and children and introduces new categories for people over 70, junior athletes, and people with disabilities who compete in events other than the Reto or the Jöelettes.”

Rivero points out that the Tenerife Bluetrail, organized by the Cabildo through the public company Ideco, “is a very complex race that involves the coordinated efforts of some 700 people who will be strategically positioned along the entire course to assist the runners and address all the needs that arise during an event of this magnitude.”

The organization has inspected the locations in the Granadilla Industrial Park, El Gaitero, Madre del Agua, El Parador, Minas de San José, and Las Lagunetas, which—along with those in Barranco Hondo, La Caldera, the Santa Úrsula firebreak, Chimiche, the Los Picachos trail, La Rambleta, and Santa Úrsula, make up the planned aid stations for the upcoming edition of the race. During this inspection, the locations of the tents and safety stations to be set up on race day were assessed.

The aid stations at the 2023 Tenerife Bluetrail will help runners stay hydrated by providing water, juices, and sports drinks at every station. In addition, depending on the difficulty of the race and the distance from the previous aid station, runners will have access to fruit, sandwiches, nuts, dates, gofio balls, gummy candies, broths, and foods suitable for people with celiac disease and vegans, among other items.

During the upcoming Tenerife Bluetrail, 13,000 liters of water, 2,200 liters of sports drinks, and another 1,800 liters of soft drinks will be provided. Participants will also consume 3,105 kilograms of fruit, 250 kilograms of nuts, and 120 kilograms of gummy candies.

A total of 10 aid stations will be located along the route of the 102-kilometer Ultra, while the 73-kilometer Trail race will have eight aid stations. Rounding out the event are the 44-kilometer marathon, with six stations, and the half marathon, with three stops along its 24-kilometer course.

The 2023 Tenerife Bluetrail offers a total of 10 race categories, including the Bluetrail Challenge, designed for people with disabilities, as well as a specific distance for joëlettes. The race, which has already become a national and international benchmark, is supported by companies such as Fred. Olsen, Hospiten, Physiorelax, La Fast, Fonteide, Libby’s, Cajamar, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, Clínica del Pie La Orotava, Isola Frutos Secos que Acompañan, Tirma, Vertresa, La Molineta, Mahou, Cultesa, Lago Martiánez, and Casinos de Tenerife.
