Prices for the summer camp will be 93 euros per week for the option that includes meals and 73 euros without meals
The Tenerife Island Council is organizing a summer camp for children ages 5 to 13 at the Tenerife Athletics Center (CIAT), a facility managed by the public company Ideco. The camp, which will run for nine weeks from June 26 to August 25, includes a variety of sports and recreational activities.
The acting Island Councilor for Sports, Concepción Rivero, notes that “those interested can register at the Tenerife Island Athletics Center starting June 12. However, for those who are already students at the Track and Field School, there is a separate registration period that is already open and ends on the 10th.”
Rivero explains that “the camp will allow participants to get started in a sport as well-rounded as track and field while spending a few fun-filled days outdoors” and emphasizes that it is “an excellent opportunity for young children to participate in sports in a different and fun way, while combining it with workshops, popular and traditional games, and outings to the countryside and the beach.”
The Tenerife Athletics Center camp runs for a total of nine weeks, but participants can choose to attend one or more weeks independently. The dates are June 26–30; July 3–7; July 10–14; July 17–21; July 24–28; July 31–August 4; August 7–11; August 14–18; and August 21–25.
Camp participants will practice different track and field events every day, such as running, high jump, long jump, shot put, javelin, and discus, but they will also learn the techniques of other sports such as pelota, soccer, non-contact rugby, field hockey, basketball, futcesto, table tennis, and volleyball.
Popular and traditional games such as Canarian ball, bottle caps, sack races, marbles, tag, and hide-and-seek will also take center stage during the camp, which also includes workshops on balloon twisting and origami, recycling, painting, arts and crafts, and environmental awareness. The children will also have the opportunity to take a field trip to the beach and hike along a trail to learn basic orienteering skills during their outing.
The organization offers the option of having lunch on-site, so there will be two schedules. One schedule runs from 8:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. and includes lunch, while the other runs from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and does not include lunch. In addition, there is the option of free extended care starting at 7:30 a.m.
Prices for the summer camp will be 93 euros per week for the option that includes meals and 73 euros without meals; however, an additional discount is offered if several siblings enroll, as well as if three or more weeks are booked together.
