The Island Council Launches the 7th Masters Games for the Island’s Adult Population

In this edition, athletes will be able to choose from 12 sports

The Tenerife Island Council is launching the 7th Tenerife Masters Games, designed to fill the weekends of the island’s adult population with fun and activity. The first scheduled activity will take place next Sunday, November 19, with the first hiking trail in the Los Derriscaderos Natural Monument in Granadilla de Abona.

The island’s Sports Councilor, Yolanda Moliné, says that in this seventh edition, which will run through next June, “in addition to continuing with the most common sports from previous years, we’re introducing some new features, such as expanding kayaking and paddle surfing following the success of last season, and obstacle courses, a sport that is gaining more and more participants, and through which we’ll give people who haven’t yet dared to take the plunge the opportunity to try this fun activity.”

Yolanda Moliné notes that the primary goal of this program is “to promote active lifestyles among adults by encouraging them to try various sports through events and workshops where fun, social interaction, and camaraderie will guide their progress.”

“The guiding philosophy of the Masters Games is ‘participation,’ where anyone, regardless of their physical condition or initial skill level, can sign up and enjoy active recreation,” emphasizes the island’s Sports Minister, Yolanda Moliné.

For this new edition, 12 sports are also expected to participate, resulting in a total of 33 event days held on weekends between November 2023 and June 2024. As in previous editions, the events are free of charge upon registration through our online platform at deportesteneries.es, and nearly all sports have a minimum age requirement of 30 for participation, due to high demand.

The Sports Department of the Tenerife Island Council would like to thank, once again this year, all the municipalities on the island for their collaboration—without them, these events would not be possible—as well as La Fast, whose bananas help athletes replenish their energy after each day of competition.

Last season, more than 1,500 people participated, 40% of whom were women, an increase from the 35% recorded the previous season.
