Organized by the Cabildo through the public company Ideco, the CIAT campus has been held in this format for five years, even during the summer of the pandemic
Nearly 250 children between the ages of 5 and 13 attended the Tenerife Athletics Center (CIAT) summer camp this summer, which has wrapped up for the year after nine weeks of activities.
Participants had the opportunity to engage in outdoor physical activity while being introduced to track and field—a sport that offers a well-rounded experience—which they alternated with other sports and recreational activities such as workshops and traditional games.
Organized by the Cabildo through the public company Ideco, the Tenerife Athletics Center camp has been held in this format for five years, even during the summer of the pandemic.
The children who attended the camp practiced various track and field events every day, such as running, high jump, long jump, shot put, javelin, and discus, but they also had the opportunity to learn the techniques of other sports, such as pelota, soccer, non-contact rugby, field hockey, basketball, futcesto, table tennis, and volleyball.
Popular and traditional games such as Canarian ball, bottle caps, sack races, and marbles, tag, and hide-and-seek also took center stage during the camp, which also included workshops on balloon twisting and origami, recycling, painting, arts and crafts, and environmental awareness. The children also had the opportunity to take a field trip to the beach and walk along a trail to learn basic orientation skills during their outing.
