The sports facility has undergone various improvements this year totaling 2.5 million euros
The Tenerife Island Council has recently modernized the gym at the Tenerife Athletics Center (CIAT) by adding new strength training equipment, which will help improve the physical conditioning of the athletes who train at the facility, which is managed by the public company Ideco. The investment in this equipment, which is now available to users, exceeds 169,000 euros.
The new machines, located both in the gym and in the indoor area, stand out for their advanced biomechanical engineering, which replicates natural movement patterns, minimizes joint stress, and enhances muscle activation.
The Sports Minister, Yolanda Moliné, emphasizes that “our goal is to provide world-class training facilities for a sport like track and field, where physical and mental preparation are crucial.”
Yolanda Moliné notes that “this year, we have invested 2.5 million euros at CIAT to carry out various projects that will help renovate a flagship facility recognized not only on the island but also throughout the Canary Islands and the Iberian Peninsula.”
Next week, the second throwing cage will also be available, complementing the existing one in response to the surge in popularity of these disciplines and the launch of the center’s Throwing School. With two operational areas, CIAT will be able to organize training sessions more effectively, reduce wait times, and facilitate more agile and efficient technical training, as well as contribute to athletes’ progress during the technical development and high-performance phases.
Preliminary work is also already underway to install a modern photovoltaic plant and replace the lighting on the main and indoor courts with LED technology, which will increase the center’s energy efficiency and help it move toward a more sustainable model.
The new facility will significantly reduce conventional electricity consumption, resulting in substantial annual cost savings. “This will help reduce the center’s carbon footprint and strengthen its position as a leading sports facility committed to clean energy,” said the island councilor.
